For mountain turtles of the same age, male turtles have thick tails and female turtles have small tails. When the mountain tortoise is caught, the male tortoise will generally show his teeth and claws, and his tail will move around, while the female tortoise will tuck the tail tightly.

Pull the turtle's tail slightly, and look carefully at the male turtle's chrysanthemum, which is long and far from the plastron. The chrysanthemum of the female turtle is round, very close to the plastron.
