The Columbian mud turtle is omnivorous and primarily herbivorous. Occasionally feeds on cow dung, mollusks in the soil, or insect nymphs. Colombian mud turtle larvae like to eat grapes, tomatoes, lettuce. When feeding, cut fruit ingredients into small cubes and mix with assorted vegetables.

In captivity, fresh fruits and vegetables such as kale, head lettuce, sweet potato leaves should be provided , water spinach, green beans, cucumbers, papaya, fruit with skin, cactus, forage, animal bait can be given in moderation.
