Large mudskippers can reproduce. Large mudskippers are dioecious, sexually mature in one year, and spawn and fertilize in spawning chambers. During the breeding season (April to September in Fujian Province, the peak season is May to July), the male fish repeatedly jumps on the tidal flat to do courtship activities, and the male and female broodstock are freely paired into the cave, where they spawn and fertilize in the spawning chamber of the cave. The spawning date is from neap tide to near spring tide, that is, every eighth to thirteenth and twenty-third to twenty-eighth of the lunar calendar. Fertilized eggs are submerged adhesive eggs, which adhere to the top and surrounding walls of the spawning chamber, and hatch larvae after 4 to 7 days.

Can

Larva of Mudskipper emerge from the hole 2 to 3 days after hatching. A mature female fish with a body length of about 10 cm has 12,000 to 15,000 eggs. The appearance of the abdomen of mature male and female fish is not very different, and it is necessary to carefully observe the genital pores to distinguish them. Those with red, swollen, large and round genital pores are females, and those with narrow, elongated and pointed shapes are males. In the same group, the longer the body length of the giant mudskipper, the more eggs were conceived, but there was no significant correlation between body weight and the number of eggs conceived.
