Barramundi is the largest species of modern lungfish. It is about 125 cm long and weighs 10 kg.

The barramundi has a long, fusiform body covered with large, thin round scales. The pectoral and pelvic fins are leaf-shaped, the fleshy part is scaly, and the dorsal, caudal, and anal fins are connected into one. The swim bladder is very long and not paired. There are two fibrous bands in the swim bladder, one on the back and one on the belly divides the swim bladder into two parts.
