Water rabbits are the largest of the white-tailed gray rabbits, but have smaller ears than other white-tailed gray rabbits. Also note that when selecting, usually male water rabbits are slightly larger than females. The weight of male water rabbits ranges from 1861 grams to 2554 grams, with an average of 2235 grams, and the weight of females ranges from 1646 grams to 2668 grams, with an average of 2161 grams.

In terms of color, the head and back of water rabbits are often dark brown, rusty brown or black. The neck, belly and tail are white. Water rabbit pups are born dark and usually take 4-7 days to open their eyes and learn to walk.
