The plateau rabbit is characterized by its large size, with a body length of about 35-56 cm and a tail length of 7-12 cm. The weight of an adult plateau rabbit is about 3 kg. Moreover, the plateau rabbit has strong limbs, well-developed and powerful leg muscles, short front legs with 5 toes, and long hind legs with well-developed muscles and tendons, with 4 toes, and the hair on the feet is abundant and fluffy.

It is understood that the coat color of the newborn cubs of plateau rabbits is more yellow than that of adult plateau rabbits. The upper part of the body dorsal coat is clearly curled, causing the dense black hair tips to appear wavy. The buttocks are the same color as the back of the body, and lead-grey or silver-grey can only appear after the first moult.
