Mexican rabbit, also known as Volcano rabbit, has a body length of about 27-36 cm and a weight of about 400-500 grams. Female Mexican rabbits are slightly larger. The Mexican rabbit has round ears, short feet and short, thick fur, making it the second smallest rabbit in the world.

Mexican rabbits live in small groups, with about 2-5 members, and are active at night. Eat the leaves of sakka grass and the bark of alder. During the rainy season, they eat crops such as wheat and cereals.
