The rock vole has a docile temperament, and its skull varies in size and shape with the species, and the center of the posterior border of the palatine bone is connected to the pterygoid process. The coat is mostly fluffy, the snout is short and blunt, the ear shells are short, the feet and limbs are short, and there is no cheek pouch.

Iwa vole has a short tail. Usually 1/3 or 1/4 of the body length. The ear shells are of normal size, the hind feet are only covered with hair near the heels, the rest are bare, and the pads are clearly visible.
