Buchner's vole's back hair is sandy yellow, the base of needle hair is dark brown, and the tips are gray-yellow, interspersed with sparse long hair. The head is the same colour as the back, but around the eyes a bright greyish ochre colour forming a prominent ring.

Buchner's vole has long light yellow fur at the opening of the ear shell , its belly hair is pale yellow, similar to the color of the back hair, with minimal color difference. The tail has long bristles, the back of the front and rear feet is light gray-yellow, and the toes and the back half of the soles of the feet have light gray-yellow fine hairs.
