The artificial rearing methods of Scale-tailed flying squirrel mainly include box rearing, cage rearing, indoor rearing and kiln rearing. Breeders can choose the appropriate method according to local conditions.
Under the condition of artificial feeding, the feed for the scale-tailed flying squirrel is mostly fresh cypress branches and leaves, pine, elm, jujube, apricot leaves, as well as pine nuts, acorns, chestnuts, walnuts, etc. The branches and leaves should be fresh and green, and some water can be sprinkled on the collected branches and leaves to keep them fresh, because the dry branches and leaves of the scale-tailed flying squirrel do not like to eat. During the breeding season of the scale-tailed flying squirrel (from February to June each year), cornmeal can be boiled into a paste, and a small amount of sugar is added to feed the mother and weaned animals to supply nutrients.
