Regardless of whether big dogs or puppies have canine distemper, there will be the following routine manifestations:

1. The clinical symptoms of canine distemper are mainly manifested in the upper respiratory tract, and the sick dogs will have obvious coughing , runny nose and other symptoms. Unvaccinated puppies may also develop severe diarrhea, pneumonia and other symptoms.

2. The neurological symptoms caused by canine distemper are obviously progressive, and finally deteriorate rapidly. Dogs with neurological symptoms, if they survive, may also have permanent sequelae (eg, seizures, vestibular disorders, quadriplegia, myoclonus).

3. If distemper infection occurs in constant Before the tooth erupts, the enamel may be underdeveloped. Other symptoms are: anterior uveitis, optic neuritis (sudden blindness), retinal degeneration and basal necrosis. Fundoscopy revealed retinal damage in the highly reflective areas of the retina. Distemper-infected puppies also develop metaphyseal osteoid sclerosis (metaphyseal achondroplasia of long bones).

Another thing to know: If high fever, loss of appetite and lethargy are the more typical late symptoms of canine distemper. Once the dog develops neurological symptoms similar to epilepsy, such as foaming at the mouth and general convulsions, it indicates that the dog will soon die. There is little hope of a cure. In the late stage of canine distemper, some dogs will have a large area of ragged skin, and even bleed pus and blood, which is very scary.
