II , Morphological characteristics
The crested mangabey is a medium-sized long-tailed monkey. The male is much larger than the female. The male body length is 49-63 cm, and the tail length is 62-76 cm. , body weight 9.6-10.2 kg, female body length 44-53 cm, tail length 40-60 cm, weight 5.3-5.5 kg.
The crested mangabey's fur is yellow-brown, with a centrally separated crest on the top of the head, very long, and dark fur draped from its sides. Their molars are very long and their front teeth are very large, which makes it easier for them to bite through the hard shells of seeds and nuts in their diet.
III. Living habits
The crested mangabey is a species of monkeys that are diurnal and active in groups, and each group is about 10 to 36 Only, mostly female groups. Active during the day, most active in the early morning and dusk. On the surface, they are usually slow and unhurried. But in fact they are agile, quick and responsive.
The food is mainly fruits, nuts, seeds, leaves, twigs, and occasionally small animals. They have large cheek pouches that can be used to store food.
Due to the dramatic increase in population in the Tana River Basin, the rapid expansion of arable land, and the substantial reduction of forest area, the situation of crested mangabey monkeys is extremely bad. I hope that the local people can raise the awareness of protecting wild animals and don't let us lose it~
