Tibetan Terrier

History

As the name suggests, it comes from Tibet, China. It is said that monks raised Tibetan Terriers in temples more than 2,000 years ago. People regard the Tibetan Terrier as a companion dog and a "good luck messenger" who can bring people the good fortune that belongs to them. This dog is never sold, and it brings disaster because families are unwilling to sell some of their good fortune. But these dogs were given as a gift primarily to show respect to God or as a thank you for people's help and service. Around the 1920s, an intern doctor named Greg Greg in India cured a sick Tibetan woman, and the grateful husband presented the doctor with a dog. So Dr. Gregg bred many of these dogs in India. Many of the dogs bred by Dr. Gregg are descendants of these puppies. When Dr Gregor returned to England, he established the famous Ramler breeding grounds. The breed was recognized in India in the 1920s and in the UK in 1937, and now the dog is shown in dog show races almost all over the world.

The skull is of medium length, neither broad nor rough. The length from the eye to the tip of the nose is equal to the length from the ear to the back of the brain. It narrows slightly from ear to eye cranial. The skull between the ears is not round, but neither is it absolutely flat. The head is rich in long hair, which covers the front face forward. The cheekbones are curved but not excessively swollen.

Has a few beards on the chin, the concave angle between the forehead and the nose is prominent but not exaggerated. The nose is black, and the teeth are white, strong and evenly placed. There is a clear curve between the canine teeth and a tight bite.

Eyes large, fairly widely spaced, dark brown or black, neither protruding nor sunken, with dark rims.

Drop ears, not too close to the head when dropped, very richly feathered, V-shaped, ears of appropriate size and proportion to the head.

Body

The length of the neck and the proportions of the torso and head are appropriate. The torso is compact, square, strong, capable of running fast and durable. Back level when exercising. The chest is richly feathered and the rib cage extends down to the top of the elbow joints. Ribs well developed, but never short or rough. The rib cage is not too wide, slightly narrow.

The loin is slightly arched, the tail is of medium length, well-furnished, set high, and arched forward on the back, and can be bent sideways.

Limbs

The shoulders are muscular and lean back. When viewed from the front, the legs are straight and strong, well-furnished, and the vertical distance from the withers to the elbow is equal to the distance from the elbow to the ground. Among the various types of dogs, the Tibetan dog has a uniquely shaped foot. The toes are large, flat, and round, like snow boots, with thick and firm pads. The toes and pads are densely hairy.

The hind legs are well groomed and the knees are well flexed. The hind legs are slightly longer than the front legs. The thighs are relatively broad and muscular. The hocks are low, turning neither in nor out.

Double coat with a soft and woolly undercoat. Needle hair is rich and fine, but never silky or wooly, and may be wavy or straight. The coat is long but not drooping to the ground. When standing on a hard surface, there is a bright area under the dog's body. Puppies have a short, single coat that is often softer than that of adults, and the coat on the neck and back is often in a natural state. Any color or combination of colors is available.
