historical origin
The original name of the Parson Russell Terrier was the Jack Russell Terrier. The Jack Russell Terrier is a white terrier bred in the south of England in the 19th century, primarily to hunt European red foxes above and below ground. This stalk was cultivated by Pastor John Russell, from which it got its name. It was not recognized by the AKC until 2002. His name was also changed from Jack Russell Terrier to Parson Russell Terrier. The AKC changed his name because his official British registered name is the latter.
