History:

Revolutions are rarely good for dogs. New regimes often use purebred dogs as totem images of the old regime. With the revolutions in France, Russia, and Cuba, the varieties cherished by the defeated classes were actively or passively eliminated. Today in Cuba, or in the United States, dogs are recovering. Havana has a close relationship with bichon frise.

Origin:

Cuba.

Any dog over the weight range is severely handicapped, and any dog over the 8-11 inch range is disqualified. Body length (chest to hip) is slightly greater than shoulder height and should not look square. The front and rear legs are short, but long enough to give the dog some height without appearing to be on the ground. It is a strong dog, of a small breed, but not overly nor fragile.

【Head】

In proportion to the body. The eyes are very large, almond shaped, very dark in color and have a gentle expression. Blue and silver-coated dogs may have slightly lighter eye color; chocolate-colored dogs may have light eye color; however, darker eyes are ideal. All dog eye rims are black except for chocolate, which is the same color as the coat. Cons: Small, round eyes with incomplete or under-pigmented eye circles. Wild, protruding eyes are a serious defect. All dogs with hypopigmentation in one or both eye circles are disqualified. The ears are set neither too high nor too low and folded down, forming a gentle fold and covered with long feathers. They are slightly upturned and moderately protruding, but neither fly outward nor close to the cheek. The skull is broad and slightly rounded, with a moderate stop. Cheeks are flat and lips are clean. The length of the muzzle is equal to the distance from the stop to the back of the skull. The muzzle is neither coarse nor dull. The nose and lips of dogs of all colors are dark black except for chocolate-colored dogs, and the nose and lips of chocolate-colored dogs are chocolate-like dark brown. Disqualifications: Dudley nose, except in chocolate-colored dogs, where the nose and lips appear black. Occlusion: Scissors bite is ideal, pincer bite is also acceptable, and it is ideal that the teeth on the upper and lower gums are complete. Crooked or missing teeth are faulty, and overbite, underbite and crooked mouth are serious faults.

[Neck, Topline, Body]

Neck of medium length, neither too long nor too short. The backline is straight, raised slightly by the hips. Appropriate protrusions on the flanks. Ribs round. The tail is high at the root, rolled over the back, and has long, soft silky feathers. When standing still, allow the tail to drop.

[Forequarters]

The forelegs are strong and straight, with a height from the elbow to the shoulder equal to the height from the foot to the elbow. The dewclaws may have been removed. Feet compact, moderately domed, moderately close. Any inward or outward rotation of the paw is a defect.

【Hindquarters】

The hind legs are relatively short, strong in bones and muscles, moderately angled; when viewed from the rear, the hindquarters are straight. The dewclaws may have been removed. The paws are the same as the forelimbs. The shortcomings are the same as those of the forelimbs.

【Coat】

The Havana is a breed with two coats, with an equally soft undercoat and coat. The hair is long, thick and very natural. Coat types range from straight to curly, with wavy coats being ideal. Curls are allowed to tie up. The coat of an adult dog is about 6 to 8 inches long. Too long and too thick coat is not ideal. Of course, with the exception of puppies, short coats are all faults. It is okay to braid the hair on the head above the eyes, but it is not possible to separate the hair on the back from the middle and comb to the sides. The hair on the head is not allowed to be trimmed, nor any form of trimming or trimming of the coat, except for the soles of the feet, which may be trimmed to avoid becoming "boat feet" or "slipper feet". Except for trimming the bottom of the feet, trimming the coat anywhere else is a disqualification.

【Colors】

All colors from pure white to cream, champagne, golden, black, blue, silver, chocolate or any of the above Combination (two-color combination or three-color combination). Monochrome is no better than other colors.
