History:

Locally in Belgium in the 15th century, by 1880, after mating with the haba, they produced a similar muzzle and short hair on the feet, and also had the blood of the German monkey face dog, which became the royal family of Belgium in all dynasties. . By the 19th century, it was fashionable to have a carriage with the dog sitting beside the rider. What's more, it can prevent mice in the stables at night, so it is also called "the winged lion of the stables". It gives the impression of being wise and intelligent, with a gentle and lively temperament. From noble people to ordinary people, this kind of dog is loved. It is praised that this kind of dog has a different charm from other beauties. It is a representative play dog in Belgium.

Since 1883, the Belgian dog trader has established a first-class association and recorded the dog. The breed standard was established in 1905. There are two types of dogs: red and black.

Origin:

Belgium. Originated from the German monkey face and the Belgian street dog, it is the offspring of a cross between these two dogs, but there is little information about these two dogs in the 17th century. It has been recorded that among the Belgian farm dogs there is a particular breed of dog which is more similar in size but heavier, as all Belgian animals are heavier. This kind of dog is mud-colored, thick and fluffy. It is not beautiful, but it is very intelligent. At that time, almost every farm family had this kind of dog, and it was often mentioned in folk songs and legends. Later a smooth-coated puppy developed in the Netherlands was used to mate with the Griffin, this hybrid has two coats that we can see on the body. We don't know exactly why the Ruby Spaniel was mated to this crossbreed, anyway, part of the facial features and expressions of the current Brussels Griffon came from the Ruby, but this facial feature makes The Brussels Griffon is no longer suitable for the original job.

Personality:

Very intelligent and sensitive. When there are strangers, young Brussels Griffins will display a strong sense of self, like a teenager, which is not often seen in young dogs. Although generally docile, this dog can sometimes be difficult to discipline and should be trained from an early age. The Brussels Griffon is stubborn when restrained, though it is oddly easy to tame otherwise.

Like everything else, the Little Griffin must be well cared for. Mature Griffons are robust, can travel long distances and make excellent companions.

FCI Criteria:

[Body and Proportion]

Weight between 8 and 10 pounds, not to exceed 12 pounds. But other aspects of the standard are more important than the weight, a small weight less than the specification, as long as the body is strong and well-proportioned, it can not be regarded as defective. Body proportions are square, meaning that the distance from the shoulders to the upper thighs is equal to the height at the withers. The body is round, well-proportioned, and strong-boned.

[head]

The head features are very important, it should have a human-like appearance. The distance between the eyes is moderate, the eyes are large, the eyeballs are black, protruding outwards, very striking. Eyelashes are black and long, with dark circles. The ears are small and set high on the skull and may have been trimmed or kept in their natural shape. If it is a natural shape, it should be half erect. The skull is large and round, with a hemispherical forehead. The nose is thick at the tip, dark and very short, well hidden under the eyes. Nostrils are large. Dudley nose or nose is a disqualification. The lips are black around the edges, do not sag and close just right, with a perfect mouth shape. The bite must be a mandibular prominence, that is, the lower incisors must protrude slightly forward than the upper incisors. The lower jaw protrudes and wraps upwards. When the mouth is closed, the teeth and tongue should be invisible. Missing or uneven teeth are serious defects. Hanging tongue is a disqualification.

[neck, topline, body]

The neck is moderately long and slightly arched. The topline is kept horizontal and short back. The chest is broad and deep, with well protruding ribs and short joints. The base of the tail is high, and the tail is docked at about 1/3.

[Forelegs]

Forelegs of moderate length, straight boned, well muscled, moderately spaced from the front and straight down from the chest. The distance between the ankle bone and the claws is short and strong. The feet are domed, small and tightly packed, neither playing in nor out. The toes are arched, with black pads and nails preferred.

[hind limbs]

The hind limbs are well constructed, the thighs are strong and muscular, the knees unbiased, perpendicular to the ground, neither in nor out.

[coat]

The bristle type has a thick and thick coat, the harder the coat, the more bristles the better. Nothing on the dog should feel like wool or silk or hair. But the coat should not be very long, so the coat appears rough. It is completely different from the short-haired coat as a whole. The head is covered with setae, with slightly longer hairs surrounding the eyes, nose, cheeks and chin. After brushing the coat with the hand, it does not appear messy. The length of the coat on the body is just enough to show the texture of the hair. The coat may be groomed prior to competition, but trimming with scissors or clippers is strictly prohibited. The short-haired coat is straight, short, tight, and shiny, with no visible traces of bristles.

[color]

1) red: some reddish-brown and black on beard and chin are allowed; 2) variegated: black and reddish-brown mixed, face and beard usually are black; 3) black and brown: black with uniform reddish-brown stripes under the chin, on the legs, above the eyes, around the ears; 4) black: solid black, white hair anywhere is a serious defect, except It is normal for older dogs to have "white frost" on the corners of their mouths. Disqualification: White spots or streaks appear anywhere in the coat.

[GAIT]

The gait is straight, fast, but soft and controllable, with the topline level as it travels.

[temperament]

Clever, alert and alert, full of confidence
