The red monkey (scientific name Erythrocebuspata') is a kind of monkey distributed in West Africa, and it is the only species of the red monkey genus. Red monkeys mainly live in savannah and semi-desert areas. The body length is 85 cm and the tail length is 75 cm. The running speed can reach 50 km/h, which is the fastest among the primates.

Red monkeys are very adaptable to life on the ground and run faster on the ground than other monkeys. They have keen senses of sight, hearing, and smell. In a group of about 12 monkeys, red monkeys feed on insects, seeds and plant roots.

Male weighs about 13 kg, females between 5-7 kg. Female red monkeys have a class system, and the leader is the female, who determines the activities of the entire group. The male red monkey is mainly responsible for the guard. Young male monkeys leave the group after they reach sexual maturity (about 4 years old).

Mainly inhabits the savannah and is a ground-dwelling species. Lively, active and agile, requiring adequate exercise.

Feeding

feeding on flowers, Fruits, branches, leaves and bark, and occasionally bird eggs and small invertebrates. During the ripening season of crops, they sometimes go to the fields to eat corn and peanuts.

Care

Due to her size, care needs to be taken with extreme care. Females are half the size of males, and in general, females are better pets. After growing up, due to the increase in strength, it is no longer suitable for bird cages to be raised, and a sturdy large cage should be prepared. It needs to be released out of the cage to play several times a day. If the activity is insufficient, it is prone to violence. The feed can be used after mixing plant foods such as fruits and seeds eaten by birds with artificial feeds such as dog food.
